Family Curry Day, the first fundraising event of the Chelmsford NSPCC Business Group in aid of NSPCC projects in Chelmsford and the surrounding area, took place on Sunday 17th July 2012 at the Royal Tiger Restaurant, Chelmsford. Boasting a fantastic attendance, the event, billed as a fun day out for all the family, didn’t disappoint and raised £729 for the charity.

Tickets to the event were priced at £25 for adults, £15 for those under 12 and children under four went free. The food on the day was a delicious buffet of Thai and Indian cuisine which was supplemented by a naan bread-making class for the children who watched the bread being made by authentic Indian chefs and had a chance to make their own.

Other entertainment on the day consisted of a bouncy castle and face painting to keep the little ones amused, an energetic dance class by local instructor Jules Bridgman got the young and old up on the dance floor to learn a some Bollywood, salsa and LeRoc (a modern jive) moves and local DJ Michael Christopher provided the music for day.

A raffle was held with the lucky winners receiving very generous prizes including, breakfast for four at Ingatestone Saddlery, tickets for two for a live opera performance at firstsite Colchester including pre performance dinner and a bottle of wine and an enthralling helicopter ride for two over the Olympic site in Stratford, East London, which was won by Jenny Cook of Bird Luckin Chartered Accountants.

The Chelmsford NSPCC Business Group is made up of 6 local companies; Clarke Infinity, The Printing Place Ltd, The Royal Tiger Restaurant, Bird Luckin Chartered Accountants, KAT Marketing and Fisher Jones Greenwood Solicitors, all of whom have formed an alliance to co-ordinate and arrange events and activities in Chelmsford and its surrounding areas to raise funds for the NSPCC.

Katie Skingle, Director of marketing company KAT Marketing, and founder of the Colchester NSPCC Business Group says “We are thrilled with the response to our very first fundraising event for NSPCC Chelmsford. We formed the group earlier this year to bring businesses together to help raise vital funds to protect children in our local area and so far we have been very pleased with the fantastic support we have had from local people and business alike. This is your opportunity to play a role in putting an end to child abuse and the group is stressing that individual actions can and do contribute to ending abuse.”
“We are not resting on our laurels however, as we have more fundraising events in the pipeline and will be using our experience to replicate our Business Groups locally and throughout the county. We are already in the process of setting up groups in Ipswich, Southend and Havering and are looking at further locations further afield, all with the main objective of assisting the NSPCC to continue the good work they are doing here in the UK.” she added.

The next Chelmsford NSPCC Business Group event is planned for October and will be a town Quiz night. If you would like to get involved call KAT Marketing on 01206 765544 or email [email protected]
